The Nottinghamshire police and crime commissioner election takes place on May 5.

We sat down with all the candidates to find out about the men behind the mission to become the county’s commissioner, outside of the pledges, policies and politics.

Jason Zadrozny is an independent candidate campaigning to increase the visibility of policing, stop the closure of police stations and reduce waste in the service.

He has been charged with 24 historical child sex offences, all of which he denies. A trial date has been set for January 3 2017.

What are your links to Nottingham?
My grandparents came over from Poland after the Second World War and settled in Nottinghamshire. Both my grandads were miners in Ashfield. My parents were born there and I was born at King’s Mill Hospital.

What are your hobbies?
I’m quite a film buff and I used to be an actor. I did a lot of work when Carlton Television was in Nottingham. I was in Crossroads, Peak Practice and Kiss Me Kate. I also collect classic film prints and cinema posters, mostly 50s and 60s British stuff.

What’s your favourite genre of music?
My iTunes is an eclectic bunch of stuff. I like the chart end of most genres but I also like classic artists such as Elton John and Queen. I’m currently enjoying Troye Sivan and Years and Years.

Who inspires you?
I think tenacity inspires me. My grandma was in Auschwitz as a 14-year-old girl and the things she had to do to survive… I suppose that’s where I get it from.

What’s your favourite restaurant?
I like Cosmo because you can eat as much as you like and try lots of different foods. I quite like East Asian food. The only thing I don’t eat is black liquorice.

Forest or Notts County?
I can’t say I support either. I follow the cricket at Trent Bridge but not the football. My godfather’s John Lukic, who used to be goalkeeper for Arsenal and Leeds United, so we were always steered to follow Leeds.

Cats or dogs?
I’m definitely a dog person. I have three: a sprocker called Snoopy, a half-st bernard half-rottweiler called Bernadette, and a st bernard called Mildred. Bernie’s just had ten puppies.

If you could fly anywhere from East Midlands Airport where would you go?
I’d go back to Egypt. I went in 2006 and I stayed in the Sinai desert and flew over to Cairo. I went into the pyramids at Giza and I saw the Sphinx but there’s so much history I’d love to go back. It was probably the best holiday I’ve ever had.

If you could be any superhero who would you be?
Charles Xavier [X-Men]. He’s able to negotiate in a way that I’m quite envious of, even without the mind-reading.

Other candidates standing in the election are independent Tony Bates, Tony Harper of the Conservatives, Fran Loi of UKIP and Paddy Tipping of the Labour Party.
