It’s English Wine Week (May 25 to June 2) so another excuse to drink some super Chardonnays and marvellous Merlots by celebrating in some of the best bars around Nottingham.

Whether you’re a supermarket £3-a-bottle red kind of person, an avid oenophile or the one who waits all year for Beaujolais Nouveau, there’s something for all palates and purses.

Here’s to some pour decisions I will be making this week.

Pitcher and Piano

While overlooking Nottingham on the terrace of Pitcher and Piano, relax and enjoy some of their extensive wine list. Our favourites were the white La Votte, Pinot Grigio, and the red Dona Paula, Malbac.

In the Lace Market, discover one of Nottingham’s finest wine bars with a wide range from their family vineyard in Sicily and other guests. Phil Brimmsfield recommends the Wine of Love which is like a sauvignon blanc and the Experts Only, a rich wine with dark fruit. Why not accompany it with some of their tapas?

Barley twist – Castle Rock

Castle Rock Brewery is a lovely bar next to the river by the train station. Adam Briggs said that they offer a great selection of wine and have a special wine of the month. Every Thursday they offer two glasses with the rest of the bottle for free.

With its cosy and rustic interior, this is perfect for those looking for a unique wine-drinking experience at this serve-yourself bar.

On arrival, you will be given a card for the dispenser machine with which you can select your glass and your wine. You just have to press a button for the wine to pour and pay your tab on the way out.

Note to self, they only accept cards.
