Pick ‘n’ Mix Events hosted the Christmas Food and Gift fair in Nuneaton, Warwickshire on Saturday 7th December 2019 in addition to the existing traditional market.

Around 20 stalls were arranged to attend the fair in the town centre but only five stalls and one food vendor showed up on the day.

One of the fairs took place the weekend before in Bedworth town centre, to coincide with the Christmas light switch on and was very successful.

Events manager for Pick ‘n’ Mix events, Jessica Stacey, 21, from Chesterfield hoped for a better turn out in Nuneaton but still had high spirits being around the other market stalls.

“Even though unfortunately some of our stalls didn’t show up today it’s not too bad because you’ve got our little mixture and it works in nicely.”

Support for local businesses and tradesmen

Jessica worked closely with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to run the fair and wanted to help support local businesses.

She said, “Everything now is changing so you have a lot of online shopping especially, so people don’t really trade that much.

“We try and help local businesses to come down and come to the town centre and offer that Christmas spirit.”

Councillor Julie Jackson, leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, previously told The Coventry Telegraph: “This will also be a great opportunity for people visiting the borough to see what Christmas inspired products our local businesses have to offer.”

“It’s a shame that lots of the stalls didn’t show up.”

Despite the low turnout local people came to support local businesses and tradesmen.

Tracy Thomas, 41, a teaching assistant who lives in Camp Hill, Nuneaton took her husband and daughter to the fair, and said, “We came to support some local businesses from the area and get some gift ideas, and get ready for Christmas.”

She also added, “It’s a shame that lots of the stalls didn’t show up. It would really have boosted the Christmas spirit. But I did manage to buy the most beautiful Christmas wreath which I am really pleased with.”
